Anshuman Swain

I'm an AI/ML research engineer at Maitri-Labs, where engineers and doctors at AIMS Kochi work on clinical problems together. The lab's projects range from detecting pancreatic cancer on endoscopic ultrasound to segmenting congenital heart defects for surgical planning. I work on the computer vision side: building models on medical scans and procedure video, and the data and training pipelines behind them.

I got into medical AI in 2023 as a research intern on EUS-ML, a project on endoscopic ultrasound for pancreatic cancer. I set up the infrastructure for training and deploying models, and built tools that let doctors label data live during procedures.

Before that, I mostly built software. I made a portal that Amrita Hospital's microbiology department uses to track patients on reserve antibiotics, and at Margati I built LLM pipelines for an early-stage startup. I studied Computer Science and AI at Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham, and spent those years in amFOSS, the university's open-source club, where I mentored juniors and ran workshops.

Outside work, I lift most days (my log is on Hevy), follow Formula 1 and Red Bull, and go looking for new music.
